Arvada Volunteer Fire Department Graduation

July 23rd, 2011

Ever since he was little, he's wanted to become a firefighter... and 30 some years later, he finally is!!!  Is this not the cutest picture you've ever seen!  ;-)
Chris made it through his second academy of the year with flying colors!  For those of you who don't know, he was hired into the volunteer (or reserves) part of the department.  Arvada is about half paid and half reserves.  They always hire from their reserves and in the next year or so they'll be hiring at least 15 more paramedics because they're starting their own ambulance transport for the city.  So it's pretty much guaranteed that he'll be hired within in the next year.

The graduation was awesome!  I had no idea it was going to be such a big deal.  AFPD even has their own bagpipe team so they played an awesome song!  It was really fun to see the video presentation of the academy and see proof of all of their hard work.

On other fire department news, Chris had interviewed for West Metro, which is the department that serves Lakewood and beyond (our area!).  There were originally over 1200 applicants and he made it on the hiring list, number 63.  Unfortunately they're not hiring at this time and don't know when they will be.  The list is good for two years.  So if all else fails, hopefully something would work out here.  (Which I would prefer anyway since it's closer and they work 48 hour shifts, and have a good reputation, and make more money.)  It sounds like if they are hiring, #63 actually has pretty good chances.  Often people have found other jobs or wash out after the background check.  I know something will work out for the best!  :o)
