Laura's Motorcycle Ride

We had the pleasure of Laurie's company for a few days a couple of weeks ago. She had a great time riding with Chris on his motorcycle! She also watched Keira for us for about 45 minutes while Chris and I went for ride up near where we had our wedding reception. It was fun!

Keira's First Tooth

My baby girl finally got her first tooth! It is the cutest thing!

Chris' Birthday

My sweet hubby is another year older. He kind of had a low key birthday. Usually we have parties and several day extravaganzas. This year he took a nice long nap, we went on a shopping spree at Tool King and found a new tool he's very excited about, we ordered pizza, and watched an old Star Trek movie. Not to brag or anything but I made Chris homemade carrot cake and it came out quite delicious if I do say so myself. :o)

No More Naps

The last couple of weeks have been rough with sleeping. Keira seems to think she's having way too much fun to take naps. She also thinks it's too much fun to play with everything in her crib and find hidden treasures.
Usually we find her standing up. We'll put her down and immediately she'll turn over and push herself up, and then stand up. She's usually totally silent while she does this so we would have no idea. She always stands up on the edge closest to the door and looks out and she gets so excited when she sees me . After a while she might start saying "mamamama" or words. And sometimes on a bad day when she realizes that mamama is not going to rescue her she starts crying.
But usually she just plays until she exhausts herself and she falls asleep slumped over like this. It's so sad! I feel like a horrible mother. So then once she falls asleep I lay her on her back so she'll be more comfortable. But sometimes she won't go back to sleep.
She used to HATE being on her tummy, but now she usually turns over and stays this way. But it might be that she's trying to stand up but is just too tired so she just falls asleep on her tummy.
I don't know what to do. Keira is much happier when she takes naps. (And so are Mommy and Daddy.) She's not one to enjoy being rocked to sleep since she was a few months old. I often nurse her before I put her down but she usually doesn't fall asleep nursing. Plus I don't want her to have to nurse to go back to sleep. I put her down when I know she's tired. And I take her out as soon as I hear she's awake. I'm not sure if I should take everything out of the crib so there are less distractions, or what. Any suggestions? She's actually been pretty good at night. I think because she's so tired that she either falls asleep feeding or she's tired enough to only stand once and is usually asleep within a few minutes. But napping not so much.

Happy Memorial Day!

First of all I would like to thank all of our troops, both past and present, and especially my brother John, for their service to our country. Thank you! =)

An exhausting weekend ended with a wonderful Memorial Day! After this month, remind me for the rest of the summer not to work two night shifts in row. I only got about eight hours of sleep in 62 hours and I was beyond EXHAUSTED! I'm still trying to get caught up.

I think this was the third or forth time Maria and I ran the 10k BolderBoulder together. It was so much fun! We didn't quite make our goal but we also didn't train like we should've. But this made me want to train again and maybe race, for fun. Not triathlons since I just don't have the time and it's too hard to swim and bike with a baby. But I might try to do a half marathon this summer. It's been ten years since my last, much too long.
Our good friend David came up Los Alamos, NM to run it with us.
Hurray! Almost finished!
After our run, and picking up my sweet baby girl, my friends Mariana, Todd, and Gabriel joined me for a BBQ and then swimming. Keira loved being in the water!
We won't tell Mariana I told you, but Gabriel is a little bit of a wimp. ;-p He wouldn't even get in the zero depth part of the pool. He did enjoy the deeper water and being in a floatie. There's more, but we won't go into that. The poor little boy definitely takes after his mama. ;o)
Keira's buddy Gariel, eleven months.
And one more picture of him. Gabriel's 1st birthday party was a month early so Mariana's family from Brazil could be here. It was the weekend I was in Santa Cruz and I'm so bummed that I missed it. The cake and decorations were amazing!
